Description
This orchard was planted in December 2012 with the help of local residents, River Beach Primary School, Worthing and Arun Mind and Brighton Permaculture Trust. It was funded by Arun Wellbeing.
It has hosted a family fun day, pruning workshops and apple juicing sessions with donated fruit from locals who received juice in return. More volunteers would be very welcome here to help with all sorts of tasks and fun events and activities and an orchard group will be set up.
The orchard has a wildflower meadow with a woven willow hurdle fence and a turf compost heap has been built. A walnut tree was donated to celebrate its year anniversary by the Chairman of Worthing and Arun Mind.
Regular Orchard Work Days are held on the first Wednesday of every month 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Any group or school would be very welcome to use the orchard as an educational resource or for events. Get in touch with the Parks Service to find out more on (+44) 01903 737960 or email parks@arun.gov.uk
