Celebrate Sussex Day 2020 in Sussex by the Sea

Did you know Sussex has it's very own special day?

The Sussex County Flag

Sussex is a large, and beautiful county that has so much to celebrate, with a wealth of history, architecture, culture, beautiful coastline, the glorious South Downs National Park, and towns and villages as diverse as the people that populate them.

Put the 16th of June in your diary and celebrate - every year

The county motto is "We wun't be druv"; the flag is resplendent in blue (to echo the sea); yellow 'martlets' (extinct birds sadly) the colour of sunshine; and the county song "Good Old Sussex by the Sea" is rousing enough to stir the soul of residents and visitors alike!

Read on to see a wide range of ways that YOU can celebrate Sussex Day, safely, online, at home and observing the current social distancing rules in 2020.

Event Organisers

If you are planning an event in the middle of June, even if it is 'online only' under current Covid-19 restrictions - why not adopt a 'Sussex Day' theme?

Read about the origins of "Sussex by the Sea"

The county's unofficial anthem was written by William Ward-Higgs in South Bersted, Bognor Regis and has a fascinating history going back to WW1. Played at many events and official  occasions throughout both East and West Sussex and even adopted by Brighton  and Hove Football Club, it's definitely a great singalong!

For example, sites like WWT Arundel, RSPB Pulborough Brooks and Pagham Harbour Nature Reserves  Littlehampton's West Beach and Climping Beach and of course the ever present South Downs National Park
