Type: Nature Reserve

Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve is an internationally important site for nature conservation, featuring plant and animal habitats of global rarity.

The Reserve covers 1500 acres, about half of which is saltmarsh and mudflats, while the rest comprises farmland, copses, lagoons, reedbeds and shingle beaches.

The view from Selsey across the harbour to Bognor Regis is said to have inspired Eric Coates, in 1930, to compose 'By the Sleepy Lagoon', now used by BBC Radio 4 as the theme tune for Desert Island Discs. See more information at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/By_the_Sleepy_Lagoon
