Wildlife & Nature in Sussex by the Sea

Sussex by the Sea has acres and acres of outdoor space which provides a safe haven for wildlife, whether in the rolling countryside or along its stunning coast.
From the idilyic Swanbourne Lake in Arundel with its its ducks and swans, to the wildfowl of Arundel Wetland Centre offering a glimpse at some of the r
arest bird species in Britain, to the deer that trot among the woodland of the South Downs, we’ve got a lot to offer nature lovers.
Our area has woodland to grassland, wetland, moorland, fen, bog and coast, each home to a fabulous array of animals, plants and birds.
West of Bognor Regis you will find the Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve which covers 1,450 acres, about half of which represents the salt marsh and mudflats of the harbour. The remainder consists of farmland, copses, lagoons, reedbeds and shingle beaches. Most of the Reserve is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its nationally important plant and animal communities.
There is also Bersted Brooks Local Nature Reserve to the North of Bognor Regis, where you can spot endangered water voles and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the 19 hectare site consisting of meadows, ponds, reed beds and riverine woodland.
Plenty of wildlife can also be seen along the sand dunes at our other Site of Special Scientific Interest, West Beach in Littlehampton.
