Sussex by the Sea is the perfect place to explore on foot, horseback or bike and has something for everyone, whatever the ability. From gentle routes along the coast to more challenging trails in the South Downs.
Wander the South Downs Way or explore Downland villages and Iron Age remains.
With extensive bridleways view the countryside on horseback with one of the many riding centres in the area. Alternatively, bring a bike or rent one when you arrive and enjoy explore on two wheels. The terrain is perfect for all abilities.
See the rare and beautiful wildfowl from around the world at the Arundel Wetland Centre set in 65 acres of spectacular wetland which is also home to a colony of endangered water voles.
Enjoy the calming natural beauty of Arundel Park and Swanbourne Lake or visit the tranquil Pagham Harbour Local Nature Reserve.
In Arundel stroll around the historic town at your leisure and soak up the history of this charming town. Arundel Museum host guided walks to help you discover more.
Enjoy a variety of walks through Arundel Park, and along the River Arun including The Port of Arundel Heritage Walk. Nearby there are fantastic walks through the new South Down National Park and along the Arun valley lies the beautiful village of Amberley.
In the opposite direction lies the estuary and the seaside resort of Littlehampton. Here you can enjoy a stroll along a riverside walkway which links with the seaside promenade. Also make sure you make that extra effort whilst in Littlehampton to cross the footbridge and follow the footpath along the road and the river to West Beach where you will find beautiful sand dunes on this Site of Special Scientific Interest.
In Bognor Regis, there is a wide, flat seaside promenade walk taking you
west to Aldwick or east to Felpham.
There are excellent walks for all levels of fitness, from the Arun Valley and seaside promenades to Heritage and South Downs Trails. For the really ambitious we even have The South Downs Way which is 99 miles or The Monarch’s Way which is 610 miles, both running through Sussex by the Sea.
